Bulls acquire DeRozan in sign-and-trade with Spurs
DeRozan signs three-year, $85 million deal with Chicago
The Chicago Bulls have acquired DeMar DeRozan from the San Antonio Spurs in a sign-and-trade agreement, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
In exchange for DeRozan, the Spurs will receive forwards Thaddeus Young and Al-Farouq Aminu, as well as a 2025 first-round pick and the rights to swap picks in 2022 and 2023, sources told ESPN's Zach Lowe.
DeRozan, 31, averaged 21.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game for the Spurs last season. He is a four-time All-Star and was named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2017.
The Bulls are hoping that DeRozan can help them take the next step after a disappointing 31-41 season. DeRozan is a proven scorer and playmaker who should fit in well alongside Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic.
The Spurs, meanwhile, are in a rebuilding mode after trading Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks earlier this summer. Young and Aminu are both solid veterans who can provide leadership and mentorship to a young team.
